Style Icons: Cara Delevingne

Style Icon Cara Delevingne knows a thing or two about power suits, as proven on the red carpet of the Met Gala (in Chanel, no less), but also out and about on the streets of New York and London. The model turned actress, among many other talents, has favored dressing in menswear inspired pieces for some time now.

Suits have become Delevingne’s tried and true staple, and her daring ensembles give a great lesson on how to add sexy accents for an ultra chic flair. While on the press tour for her new movie Valerian, Delevingne sported multiple power suits. Some featured subtly provocative accents, others were a modern twist on Old Hollywood glamour.

The secret to Delevingne’s suit success is all in the silhouette and fit. She prefers a skinny pant leg with a low rise, breaking up her long physique while still accentuating her legs. Fastening the button of her perfectly fitted jacket accentuates her waist. She often opts out of wearing a shirt underneath her jacket, instead choosing lacy bralettes with sheer accents, or nothing at all.

If she is to wear a shirt, Delevingne chooses a crisp white or black oxford, tucked in. To add a casual spin on her favorite styles, Delevingne pairs her suits with athletic shoes and basic t-shirts, proving streetwear elements can be incorporated into modern tailoring.
